WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

The story stars with Mr. Pigeon, arriving in his old van, in the tree neighbourhood to sell happiness in jars. It is a modern style story in which you read (and see) that the birds have internet, cars, mail boxes, electricity, means of mechanic transportation, and even&#;goalma.org world building is incredible. So many details &#; in the trees, the leaves, the houses all the birds live in, how each character has its own personality, way of dressing and personal objects.

The characters are good birds that just want to share happiness to others, and they are convinced by Mr. Pigeon that happiness is to be found in the jars he sells.

All of the birds are a type of person you met: the dinner hosts who want to share with their guests, the ones who buy just a little, because they can&#;t afford a lot, the old grandmother who wants to gift something to the nephews who have everything, the ones who buy a dozen of small jars for Christmas gifts, even the ones who try to bargain for a smaller price, because they already bought before.

WHAT DO I LOVE ABOUT IT?

What I really appreciate about Marco Soma&#;s work is that even though, you only read about a mice family, living at the bottom of the tree at the end of the book, the illustrations introduce them visually from the beginning. You see Mr. Mouse sweeping the leaves and watching Mr. Pigeon curiously.

Picture Book illustrations often do more than illustrate the text, they build their own story along the main narrative thread, that children perceive visually. There may be things or characters that the words don&#;t even mention, but that once illustrated strengthen the world they built.

After Mr. Pigeon starts the van to leave, a jar accidentally falls. Mr. Mouse picks it up and runs with it home. He opens it with his children and they see that it is &#; empty. Mr. Mouse is very happy. An empty jar was all he wished for. He was already happy, so he saw that jar for exactly what it was: an empty jar.
